I decided on this Sony bluray player because I have a Sony HD TV. I figured same brand, less hassle. This player produces excellent picture quality from bluray discs but there is much to be desired when playing DVDs. This bluray player's upconverting is NOT on par with the Sony DVD player (DVP-NS710), which I consider as excellent. I was able to compare upconversion picture quality as I have both players, but if you don't have both players to compare PQ then you would likely never notice the difference. The main reason I give this bluray player only 3 stars is because of the slooooooow loading time. It's quite a wait between the time when I load the tray to the time when the movie starts playing. (Although there is a menu option to speed up the load time I've chosen not to turn on the option as I prefer to have the built-in fan kick in right away.)
